Board of Education Meeting PUBLIC COMMENTS:
following information is provided to help you understand how the Board of
Education operates with respect to public comment during its board meetings.
The board president will read the following preamble just prior to the public
comment section of the agenda: We are now at the public comment portion of our meeting for
comment on items not listed on today’s agenda. For those of you that would like
to comment on specific agenda items, please hold those comments until we
request them during the discussion on that specific item.
Before we start we want to thank you for coming to share your
ideas and opinions with us. It is our duty to ensure that the District reflects
the values of the community, and one of the ways we accomplish that goal is to
hear directly from you about your preferences and concerns. School boards are a
little different from other elected boards in that our meetings are business
meetings that are held in public, not public meetings; so during this time our
job is to listen. We are prohibited by state law from taking any action on an
item not previously noticed on our agenda, however, we are listening and
we do welcome your remarks. During our next meeting, if appropriate, we
will consider your comments in our board discussion. Prior to that time we will
ask that the appropriate person attempt to address any of your questions.
To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate, we
have a few guidelines we ask you to follow:
- Anyone intending to address the Board should complete one of the
public comment cards located in the back of the room and return it to Angela
Rittenhouse, Secretary to the Board. I will call on speakers in the order in
which the cards are received.
- Speakers’ comments are limited to five (5) minutes. If your
topic requires additional time, board members are always available for more in
depth discussion on an individual basis. Please feel free to contact any board
- If more than one person wishes to speak on the same topic, speakers
are asked to provide only new information. Please, do not repeat views already
expressed by other speakers.
- We ask you to refrain from making complaints or negative
comments regarding individual students or specific district employees.
Thank you in advance for your participation. Let's get some good
Public comment cards are located in the back of the board room or you can get one from the Secretary to the Board, Angela Rittenhouse. As soon as you have the card filled out, please turn it in to Angela.
If you are able to give notice ahead of time that you would like to speak during Public Comments, please email Angela Rittenhouse at firstname.lastname@example.org with your topic. She will let the Board know and whenever possible, plan according.
