GUIDELINES
To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to participate, we have a few guidelines:
- Sign-up for Public Comment is required no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled meeting.
- CLICK HERE to fill out the electronic public comment form.
- The time for each speaker will be limited to three minutes, and each individual will only be recognized once. If there is a large number of speakers, the Board may elect to take comments for one hour before the business meeting and conclude public comment after the business meeting.
- Public comments may deal with any topics related to the Board’s oversight of the schools. Speakers may offer appreciation for or criticism of school operations and programs as concern them but are encouraged to exercise their speech rights responsibly as they are personally responsible for any legal consequences attributable to their comments including claims for defamation. Speakers’ remarks should be suitable for an audience that includes kindergarten through twelfth grade students, including no use of profanities or obscenities. Comments concerning personnel matters should be directed in writing to the superintendent or Board president. Board members do not engage in conversation during public comments.
- If you would like to provide a comment during the public comment section of the agenda, please fill out this form at least 24 hours prior to a regular board meeting. Speakers will be asked to speak in the order in which they sign up until the total time allotted for public comment expires. We ask groups to select a speaker and if more than one person plans to speak, the new speaker is asked to provide only new information, not repeat views already expressed.
- When addressing the Board please include the specific nature of the topic, a brief statement of relevant facts, and how you have been affected. Use full names, dates and exact occurrences, including witnesses, if appropriate.
- Speakers' comments are limited to three (3) minutes. If your topic requires additional time, board members are always available for more in-depth discussion on an individual basis. Please feel free to contact any board member directly.
- If more than one person wishes to speak on the same topic, speakers are asked to provide only new information. Please, do not repeat views already expressed by other speakers.
- Please refrain from making complaints or negative comments regarding individual students or specific district employees.
